OWNERS OF ORIGINAL PAINTINGS
BY JOHN STOBART
AND EXHIBITION AT
THE SOCIETY OF THE FOUR ARTS

At the request of The Society of the Four Arts, a special exhibit will take place January 22 through February 28, 2010. Preeminent maritime artist, John Stobart, will display between 100-150 of his paintings spanning his career. At the conclusion of this exhibit, the paintings will then travel to various museums across the country. While the details of this new exhibit are still in infancy stage, every effort will be made via this website to keep Stobart collectors apprised when more definite plans are set.

Also, we are in search of originals by Mr. Stobart. If you are the owner of any of Mr. Stobart’s paintings, or if you know a collector, willing to loan the painting(s) for inclusion in this exhibit, you are encouraged to contact us (mhpent@aol.com) for additional details.

The Society of the Four Arts is a nonprofit cultural organization founded in 1936 by a group of prominent Palm Beach residents to meet the cultural needs of the growing resort community. The four arts which constitute the Society’s mission are music, drama, literature, and art.

Important Message:

Please be advised that we have become aware that unauthorized copies of John Stobart's prints are being promoted and sold on the Internet web-site ebay. The fraudulent prints from these sites are not signed or numbered and are in no way authorized by John Stobart or Maritime Heritage Prints. Please be aware that any print without a signature or a number has absolutely no monetary value. Please be assured that we are currently taking legal steps to terminate the continuation of this action. It has also recently come to our attention that counterfeit Stobart paintings are being manufactured and marketed on web-sites from China. We are doing everything within our power to contain this situation and will continue to diligently monitor these Chinese sites and keep you updated whenever new information occurs.

Not long ago, we discovered and incident involving the forgery of an original oil painting. The painting, which was to be auctioned, is a copy of an image John Stobart painted several years ago with a forged "STOBART" signature. Steps are being taken to determine the origin of this forgery.

It is regrettable that these situations have arisen, but unfortunately on occasion they do. We are deeply concerned that the integrity you associate with Maritime Heritage Prints could be marred. It is also our concern that your investment could be at risk.

Before purchasing any Stobart paintings or prints, either in person or via the Internet, it is vital that you know and trust the reputation of the seller. It is impossible to verify the condition or even the authenticity of a print or painting without access to the piece. It is therefore imperative that you have a reputable seller’s guarantee before purchasing any art work sight unseen. We cannot stress enough the importance of knowing your seller.

In many of these instances, the prints available on these sites are still available through Maritime Heritage Prints and/or our authorized dealers often times at prices less than those listed at on-line auctions. All prints purchased through Maritime Heritage Prints, whether on the primary or secondary market, are guaranteed to be in mint condition.

Please contact us if you have any information about other disreputable Internet sellers. We will do our best to investigate and put an end to any fraudulent actions.
